Its good to see someone has passion for food in brisbane, well done...
But please dont relate urbane restaurant with The French Laundry nor should the courier mail with ryan squires.
Ryan Squires did well for urbane and made it into the restaurant it is today, so when the new chef came back , he should have his own stlye not ryan squires's nor should ryan have the french laundry.
Im sure kim didnt learn this from the green pawpaw
Im sick of chefs getting credit for others hard work, like the chef in melbourne robbie wicks at interlude

For sure - Ryan Squires wasn't the one dishing out the wonderful food I consumed that night, but I'm of the opinion that it's whatever gets someone in to a restaurant! :) It's the whole bad publicity is good publicty school of thought. I've not yet had the pleasure of eating at the Green Papaya but it is certainly on my list. The credit for my amazing meal that night is totally aimed at Kim and his chefs.

Sounds pretty special, and $120 each is actually pretty good for this kind of thing. Will have to give it a try in due course.

I think you miss understood me....amy
Think about it.
im not sure if you had tried kims food, before he left urbane the first time, maybe you would understand it more. his style , creativness and the rest...
There are so many crap restaurants out there, with multi million dollar outfits with donky chefs.

I've dined at some top michelin starred restaurants in Paris - Urbane is NOTHING on them. Too many chefs say they are 'michelin starred' when they worked for or with a michelin establishment or chef in the past. The food at Urbane was merely ok, only two of the degustation meals were worthy of praise. Head on to Absynthe at Q1 in surfers if you want something in SE Qld that comes close to a michelin experience in terms of quality of food.

well ive been to absynthe on the coast and sort of reminds me of the coast "cheap and nasty" ..he should of rented up stairs on the top floor so the food wouldnt look so bad.
ive lived in europe for 6 years and 4 in the states and im pinching my self saying this but the states restaurants in the upper half are 10 times the establishments of paris for eg or europe.
i think some of the french chefs that come to australia feel that they have an upper hand on the culinary culture before landing but matter of fact i think they may have felt as though they have failed there..
the chef that greeted us at absynthe was a bit pig headed and his attitude wasnt matching his food.... i hate that but i didnt mind when i meet grant from alinea in Chicargo now this is great food with a deserving attitude

I hear you Marc,
I've dined at the Laundry and trotters in the states, very polished...
I follow the reviews very carefully and didnt urbane bet absynthe in the food score last year and this year .. maybe I would have to check again. not sure what chef was at urbane when they got the highest score in queensland, I feel it may of been Ryan Alexander Squires, but who are the critics?
I went to urbane about 6 months ago fantastic...
