I remember going to this club ages ago, like in the early 2000s. The worst thing was always the dress code, one night you’d get in, the next week you wouldn’t. They often seemed to look at the group you were in too and the way you were all dressed. Oh yeah and drugs were rife there back then. Might go check it out again for old times’ sake but I hope the dress code has relaxed a bit.

i have heard that the family is a very good place for a female to pick up with another female. i was just wondering if anyone can tell me if this is true.
my partner and i would like to frequent a club that has a little style about it, and has the opportunity to for us make ‘friends’ with women ??
i guess i am asking for something like the beat… but better ??

what can i say, family is honestly the fk’ing shit, been going there for little over a year now, and it never gets old (bar when its a dikfest) but yeah, its awesome, young druggo ravers always were the coolest haha. IM PEAKIN!!!!

The Family is an awesome place to go clubbing, you may need to be on “something” some nights to put up with the overbearing amount of people or the rude men who feel its necessary to grab and pinch parts that don’t belong to them(not condoning this whatsoever), but if you go there expecting the perfect club you’ll be disappointed. If you go there looking to have fun, do that, but remember that it’s not perfect and yes, it could use some work.
For people living in Brisbane, who’re looking for a good night out in Brisbane, who like decent music, not the cheesy shit that gets played all around brisbane; then come to the Family, On friday night they play world class trance, and upstairs Karma and the rest are always cranking decent electro. not the ministry of sound shit you hear, either awesome remixes of that or different underground (soon to be) anthems.

My Opinion- The Family rocks, i’ve been clubbing for over 4 years. No club in QLD beats it, and on Friday nights, you’d be hard pressed to find a club more worthy of the 15$ cover charge you pay to get in. It’s a place so big you won’t want to leave, and offers more than good music and drugged up ravers.. It’s an experience.

Take it as you will, say what you want, the Family will be there for ages, and there’s a reason; The Family is a good clubbing experience.
Don’t expect perfection, but expect a good time and you’ll have a ball!

THE FAMILY IS A JOKE ! I FIRST WENT A FEWS YEARS AGO, I HAD JUST CAME UP FROM MELBOURNE. I CHECKED OUT SOME GIG GUIDES AND RECORD SHOPS IN SEARCH OF SUTABLE CLUBS/VENUES, THE FAMILY SAID THEY PLAYED TRANCE,PROG(I EVEN SEEN THEM FLOGGING THEM SELVES IN PSY TRANCE ADDS) ALSO I RECIGNISED SOME ARTISTS/DJS, I PICTURED THE MELBOURNE VENUES I HAD SEEN THEM OR WOULD EXPECT TOO, IN ORDER TO HAVE AN IDEA OF THE TYPE OF CROWD. SO ANY WAY I ROLLED UP, IT WASNT WHAT I EXPECTED, I SEE A LONG LINE OF PEOPLE, BEING MADE TO STAND AND WAIT FOR JUDGMENT FROM SOME BITCH.. I SEEN A FEW CATS RECEIVING VIP ENTRY. SO I WALKED UP TO ONE OF THE 4? GUYS ON THE DOOR AND OFFERED HIM $ TO LET ME IN, HE SAID “YES, JUST WAIT TILL THE DOOR WAY CLEARS”.THEN THIS STUPID POWER TRIPPIN BITCH SEES ME AND SAYS THERE WAS A DRESS CODE ! NO “STREET CLOTHES” ALLOWED. I TURNED TO SEE SOME OCA DORKS WEARING SHIRTS WITH COLLARS, UGLY SQUARE CUT JEANS AND CHEAP LEATHER SHOES THAT LOOKED LIKE SCHOOL SHOES. AMAZED I TOLD HER DESCRIBING THIS PLACE WITH TERMS HARD,FAST,PHAT,PROG,TRANCE, WAS A MASSIVE MISREPRESENTATION OF THIS CLUB. I SAID, “SO I HAVE TICKS TO DEEP DISH NEXT WEEK CAN I SEE THEM IN THESE CLOTHES” ? “IVE WORE THESE CLOTHES TO CLUBS ALL OVER THE WORLD….. BUT THEY ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR “FAMILY IN BRISBANE”…. THE TRANCE SCENE AT THE FAMILY IN BRISBANE IS FOR A SELECT GROUP ONLY HEY ? AND “TRANCE IN BRISBANE HAS A DRESS CODE” HOW GOOD DOES THE FAMILY AND ITS STAFF THINK THEY ARE WITH THERE COUNTRY TOWN CLUB THATS YEARS BEHIND EVERY ONE ELSE ?? MELBOURNE AND EVERY OTHER CITY HAVE CLUBS JUST FOR A PARTICULAR TYPE OF CROWD AND DRESS CODES, BUT THEY ARENT TRANCE CLUBS THAT BOOK MAJOR TRANCE ACTS… WHAT A FUCKING JOKE !!!

Family is good if there is someone good playing. Other than that I probably wouldn’t ever go there again.
I like the fact that GPO has a stricter dress code and only lets people in with a certain image. I’d rather be around cool people and good music than in a crowded smelly dirty place.

Pretty nervous, because im not sure if ill get in..

Im a total tomboy and hate wearing anything dressy.

Would I pass in jeans, leather shoes and a button down ?

I bin goin to the family for 2 yrs now there was a stage were i was goin friday night, saturday night, every wkend l love family and wish it would be open more nights its the best club to be partying at til 5am in the morning!!!!!
