Ladies: be wary! The stairs are rather scary!
(Especially when you're wearing 5" heels) I am a changed woman after that place. I no longer wear heels out drinking, lest I fall down a flight of darkened stairs in a nightclub...like the Family!!!
Also: Al Al Al, DO NOT. And I mean DO NOT waste your time with the GPO. You'll be bored and disgusted. No more need be said.

Yes, those infamous little stairs everywhere! Fell down @ least 3 times (of course it had nothing to do with the copious amounts of alcohol I had to drink - Ill just blame the shoes)!! And girls, if you're wearing a short skirt and a gee and walk up the stairs to the 'bongo room', you will certainly drawn a lot of attention! I'M LOVIN' FAMILY!!!

[...] Its nice to have a routine sometimes. Something to look forward to every week. I used to always find my self at The Family Nightclub on Fridays and in The Sunbar on Saturdays. The Family never got boring, The Sunbar did. Times have changed, I am not at Family as much as I used to be and I am hardly ever in Sunbar since the novelty wore off. However one recent trend that has started in my life is my routine sunday breakfast in West End. I have been going to West End for breakfast for a good year now and having tasted what is on offer I thought it would be good to write a summary. [...]

[...] GodsKitchen are back for another tour of Australia, they will be making their stop in Brisbane on Friday the 29th of September at where else but The Family Nightclub in Fortitude Valley. I remember clearly the last time GodsKitchen played (the photo on the right was taken during Cosmic Gate’s set) and it was one of the best nights at The Family. [...]

[...] Last weekend was really big, I was at The Family Nightclub on Friday night, listening to the great sounds of DJ Tydi till around 2:30am. If you’ve ever been to The Family on a friday night, you would have most probably heard him play. As far as my opinion goes, I think he is one of Australia’s best DJs as he leaves the rest of them leaps and bounds behind. If you want more information, check out his website and listen to his song is it cold as it is fantastic. You can also do him a favour by voting him as the number 1 DJ in Australia! You can do that here. [...]

I think that this night club needs to provide a 'duty of care' to its patrons.

The upstair's balconies surround the dance floor. Glasses often get knocked or thrown from the upper level.

Perhaps plasticware upstairs or a net to shield the dancers??? A night is ruined by an ambulance for a friend!

The Empire had to provide nets to save vehicles as well as pedestrians...why can't Family make all dancers feel safe?

sorry guys to be the grim reaper but my experiences at family have always been terrible taking 30 minutes just to walk up one flight of steps while ur arse is being grabed and ur bra undone through the back of ur top is not my idea of a good time also the tickets are outragously priced and you cant move on the dance floor without risking your feet getting squashed or an elbow to the face ( if anyone can move it that far) sorry, i wont go back but im glad u guys enjoy it

ok, so ive only been to the family twice, but it is my new favourite place in the whole world, the best trick with the stairs is 2 go with ppl whove been there more times than they can count and who no exactly were those killers are, pretty sure the article says it all - 'the ultimate venue in Brisbane'

I've tried to get in at the family a few times, and always been rejected on 'dress code'. What the hell is with that?

Yeh, your'e right, *&!# THE FAMILY, the dress code is one of the most strict, in the whole place, the only club where me and my friends could get into and they didn't even look at what we were wearing was the the MASS, and its not too bad a club either. So yeh fuck the family.

Thanks for all the info ppls. I will be starting work at the Family tonight - thought I'd better read up on it since I've never been there. I've only just moved to Bris from Toowoomba so I'm thinking the Family will be a significant change to the pub/club's we have in Woombyland. I can't say I like it or hate it yet but I can say I am definitely looking forward to 8pm tonight. xxx

FAMILY definately has a reputation as a Top Club, coz thats exactly what it is!
if you are having trouble getting up the small flight of stairs from Balcony to Uncle, there is actually another set of stairs that are well lit and easier to climb, if you know where the exit is, you will notice another set of stairs going up...a bit easier when your wearing heels or a short Skirt!!
when you have a sound system, lighting and Dj's like FAMILY its only to be expected thats theres going to be a bit of a crowd!!
as for cover charge, think of how much people pay to go and see a band...its the same thing!!

Joanna,
Almost anywhere you go, they are trying to boost their female:male ratio. I've been accepted into family without dressing up (old grey skate shoes, jeans and a boring dark red shirt) just because I was with a girl, I think. I have been refused while dressing much better.

When I've been to Family with my mates, we've usually got in wearing the standard valley outfit:
- white leather shoes (work like magic in the valley)
- jeans
- nice, funky bright T shirt

For girls, I'd say try to look sexy, it doesn't matter how provocative or modest you are. If you look like you've lifted a finger to dress up you'll do well getting into clubs.
